Stage 4 – 10 September 2024
Key Metrics: Distance 17.7km, Elevation Gain 1,864 m
Stage 4 will begin by following the Artuch river, which runs just blow the base camp. We will follow it for 5km up 700m of elevation to the Kulikalon plateau.
The Kulikalon plateau is covered by a series of glacial lakes. Here you will have amazing views to some of the highest peaks in the Fann mountains, towering above the plateau. The tallest is Peak Chimtarga which reaches a height of 5489m a.s.l.
When you come to Kulikalon lake (literally Big Lake), we will have a special race feature here, that we call “The Big Lake Break.” Racers can stop the race clock when they check in here. This allows the racers to rest and take some time to take in the beauty of this area. They can have a swim in the lake or enjoy themselves any way they want.
When racers are ready to continue their stage, they check out with race staff and the clock will begin again. This will add an element of strategy to this stage. Do you take the time to rest and recuperate, while risking stiffening or seizing up or do you keep your momentum and carry on?

The climb to the pass is a significant one gaining 900m of elevation up to 3,780m a.s.l. From there the views will be amazing! Looking back, you will see the beautiful Kulikalon lakes, to your right the towering peaks and glaciers and in front of you the beautiful Alouddin lakes.
